The Taff Trail - Rhydycar to Cefn Coed
Negotiating this particular section of the route near the Town Centre can be a little tricky. Although it is really well signposted there are still a few alternative tracks that a cyclist or hiker can actually take.
After arriving at Rhydycar the trail passes under the over-pass towards the College.
A fish pass has been constructed in the last few years along-side the weir to help the salmon return upstream to spawn.
The modern road bridge a few hundred metres up stream has been an important crossing point since the 16th Century. In 1793 the oldest known iron framed single span bridge in the World, Pont-Y-Cafnau, was constructed by Richard Crawshay's principal engineer at this point.
A census carried out between 8am and 8pm in the last week of June 1800, identified a total of 57,476 pedestrians, 773 horses, 1881 wheeled vehicles and 507 cattle crossing the bridge.
After leaving the Town Centre the trial passes through Dixon Street and then towards the Mormon Church.
Passed the remains of the enormous blast furnaces and towards Cefn Coed.
You arrive in Cefn Coed by crossing Cefn Viaduct.
